I should really stop writing my blogs on paper before I post them, and then waiting so long to post them because it gets confusing, but I can’t always get to a computer and for whatever reason my phone refuses to work in sync with Learnerblogs. Anyway I wrote this on November 2nd, but the pictures were found today.
I wanted to pick somebody from a more recent date, but I really couldn’t find anybody other than any athletes that were born and sure, they’re good entertainment, but I don’t really think they give any sort of contribution that’s really important.

I decided to go with John James Sainsbury born in 1884 a English billionaire. John Sainsbury founded the Sainsbury supermarket chain now the largest part of J Sainsbury plc. From one store in Holborn, London, opened at 173 Drury Lane in 1869, he built a chain of supermarkets which numbered 128 when he died. When he died in 1928, his last words were “Keep the shops well lit.” By 1882 John James had opened a total of 4 shops and counting. Between 1890 and 1900 the number of Sainsbury’s branches grew from 16 to 48. Although none of the shops have been owned by a Sainsbury since the 1900’s they still recieve 14% of profit. It was said that John grew up in a very poor family and was determined to make high quality items as affordable as possible and his store quickly gained popularity. Throughout his life Sainbury’s remained a family business he was very dedicated to and passed it down through the years. Jame’s took on the title of Chairman and Governing Director, which he held until his death in 1928.
He seemed to be a very respectful and responsible man and really if you think about his accomplishments and going from a very poor family to a billionaire is quite encouraging.
