If you could give a presidential candidate advice, what would it be?

I would write something along the lines of “A Needed Change”
*(This will most likely be changed before Monday)

I’ve been having really mixed thoughts about highschool. My parents practically forbid me going to a public highschool so filling out all private/prep school applications have been strenuous and haven’t been the most spirit lifting things in the world. I’m pretty nervous for highschool, but also very excited. It’s obvious that freshman year will be tough, starting at the bottom of the school again…after you finally get to the top it’s ripped away from you and your thrown back at the bottom…go figure. I’m pretty sure everybodys feeling the same feelings though, lots of nerves, excitement, it’s something to look forward to. After we got the course selection sheets it was all pretty real to us, that we’d actually be going to highschool. Atleast that’s how it was for me, and a few other of my friends. So basically, I am, despite all the terrible things you hear about it, looking forward to highschool. Atleast we aren’t going through it alone, we have plenty of classmates to lean on.

 Martin Luther King

 Born on January 15th, 1929

Many people in the world take Martin Luther King day for granted especially young childeren. Many of us are just excited to have the day off from school, sleep in late, get homework done, hang out with friends and just relax. I think more kids should really learn about the day we have off.

”A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus, but a molder for consensus.”

I believe we have school off to honor his good deeds. I do believe that it’d be better if we had school to honor him. If we had school we would have a constant reminder of MLK throughout the day, which I do not think many people have in the comfort of their own home throughout the day.

I believe this movie has a lot to share. It barely has any colored photos, no words just simply a meaningful song yet it still gets it's point across to it's audience. I think this video, though the others had very powerful messages this one I could understand the most. I think the life lesson is that no matter what you should always find happiness in other people. Every single person has a different lesson to share, a different life story. You will always be able to confide in somebody, or have somebody who cares for you. Listen to other people, don't ignore them, every single person has something important to say.

WELL, you see I probably shouldn’t write a blog when I’m in this sort of mood, but it is when I actually write a meaningful blog, meaningful to me at least. If I was on top of the moon currently, you’d be reading about how I wonder why bee stings really hurt. Who wants to read that? If you do, well…Google is your friend.

Anyway, lately I’ve been wondering a lot about why I try so hard? I try to give 100% as often as I could. Granted, sometimes I slack everybody does, but I’ve got school, skating, chores, community service, I teach CCD on monday nights, homework, and then helping my younger siblings and eating, oh and let’s not forget sleeping ties into that, never mind the fact that I’m still young…I believe I’m entitled to a little slacking here and there. It’s pretty much impossible to put 100% into all that and still manage to be able to move by the end of the day. So, basically I was just wondering why I work so hard to be a good role model for my siblings? Hm? Is there any reason why? There’s nobody (well besides my parents, but they’re older so I don’t look up to them the way my little siblings look up to me) for me to look up to and I am still a good kid, why do I need to make sure my every single step is absolutely perfect for my siblings? Yeah, I want it to be that way I’m honestly proud they admire me, but a C on a test shouldn’t be the end of the world. Right? It’s not like they’re going to want to get involved in all sorts of drugs because their older sister got a C on a test. If you agree with me would you mind helping me convince my parents of the same?

Then I wonder why I just try so hard in general. I know I can barely fit everything into one day, somehow I manage because I work hard, I don’t waste time, I manage it well (well enough at least), but yet, nobody cuts me any slack ever. I guess everybody’s just so used to me working everything into a schedule, barely having any time for friends and not complaining about it that they take advantage of it.

I wonder why when I want something SO badly there never fails to be something in my path that’s shoving me away from what I want. No, I’m not talking about guys because unlike most of the girls my age I do not freak out when a guy I like doesn’t glance in my direction in a span of five minutes. I mean with High School and skating. Does there have to be so many people applying to the school’s I want to go to? Why does that girl have to have a triple salchow too? Blah.

I wonder why I’m not lucky? Do not get me wrong. Please, I’m incredibly grateful for what I have, but I know many people have happy healthy family and good friends PLUS a little extra something. What I mean by a little extra something is getting lucky. I know people who have grandparents who have won the lottery and they’re benefiting from it. Jeez, why can’t I get a little extra something here and there?

I can’t complain though, I’m a happy person, I’m not going to lie. I just wonder why it has been generation through generation that everybody has to work their absolute hardest to maintain what they have, to make other people happy, etc. Sometimes they don’t even GET what they truly want when there’s people that pass them by that…just do not work as hard.

Although I complain (which honestly is only once in a while) I decided I won’t at any point in my life decide to not work as hard. Sure, I will slack a little it’s inevitable, but I don’t think I could ever live a life that is not constantly busy I’m just way too accustomed to it. Life isn’t fair to a lot of people, but I guess I’m grateful for being able to manage, it makes me a strong person which I’ll definitely need in the future. Eh, at least I’ll never be able to say I didn’t try which is a lot more than most people can say.

I’d love for these questions to be answered, but in the meantime I’m going to go back to my L.A. homework. I think everybody should be pretty proud that I’ve gotten my blog posted before xoathleteox, unless she decided to beat me to the punch and click publish before me.

Why students should come to class?

My opinion:
I do think this is a wonderful idea, but I don’t think many people will agree with it. There will be no interaction other than yourself and the computer. Even with as much work as we do on the computer in our classes we still do other things, we still have discussions as a class and listen to everybody’s opinions and include those into our work. I think that our projects would be very straight forward and there wouldn’t be as much creativity due to the fact not many people are adding there ideas and input into it. I know for myself, I have trouble with math and I have to focus really hard and really pay attention. I think if I was listening to the teacher through the computer, I’d get easily distracted and it would be harder for me to learn it rather than the teacher being with the class in person. I do think this program has it’s high points though, and it really is a great idea.

(Mr. B, I couldn’t find where to comment him….but that’s what I would say, if I find out how to do it in the meantime I’ll post it.)

So I, just like many others, took this blog assignment as something we would like to be in the future. Some things I realize I should have been more specific about (the second slide, I am always there for my friends and family, but I'd like to continue being that way is what I meant). Everything in this slide is 100% true and I am trying my best to work on who I really want to be. Hope you enjoy!

*Note: Let me apologize in advanced for my cracky voice (I've got a cold) and for all the noise in the backround. I thought the microphone in my computer would do just fine, but it didn't manage to block out all the noise in the backround, and my family just didn't feel the need to cooperate with me tonight.

I should really stop writing my blogs on paper before I post them, and then waiting so long to post them because it gets confusing, but I can’t always get to a computer and for whatever reason my phone refuses to work in sync with Learnerblogs. Anyway I wrote this on November 2nd, but the pictures were found today.

I wanted to pick somebody from a more recent date, but I really couldn’t find anybody other than any athletes that were born and sure, they’re good entertainment, but I don’t really think they give any sort of contribution that’s really important.

I decided to go with John James Sainsbury born in 1884 a English billionaire. John Sainsbury founded the Sainsbury supermarket chain now the largest part of J Sainsbury plc. From one store in Holborn, London, opened at 173 Drury Lane in 1869, he built a chain of supermarkets which numbered 128 when he died. When he died in 1928, his last words were “Keep the shops well lit.” By 1882 John James had opened a total of 4 shops and counting. Between 1890 and 1900 the number of Sainsbury’s branches grew from 16 to 48. Although none of the shops have been owned by a Sainsbury since the 1900’s they still recieve 14% of profit. It was said that John grew up in a very poor family and was determined to make high quality items as affordable as possible and his store quickly gained popularity.  Throughout his life Sainbury’s remained a family business he was very dedicated to and passed it down through the years. Jame’s took on the title of Chairman and Governing Director, which he held until his death in 1928.

He seemed to be a very respectful and responsible man and really if you think about his accomplishments and going from a very poor family to a billionaire is quite encouraging.

For this blog, I opted to go with my Dad. I was thinking about a couple of other internet businesses (i.e. youtube, facebook, myspace, etc.), but after I waited for about a week or so and got no responses I gave up and decided to go with my Dad. My dad own’s a business called Carnival At The Mall. No, there are no rides, games, or music, well unless you count the music playing in the mall. Anyway, my dad had an idea about 3 years ago (?)  to open a kiosk that contained fried dough, cotton candy, candy apples, icecream, everything that you can find at a carnival or a fair, seriously. So since I never really questioned him about it and just let him go along with his business I decided to surprise him with a E-Mail while I was at the rink (thank goodness for my sidekick!)

He responded and said that it is a fun experience, and it’s always a pleasure to have all sorts of sweets at any second of the day. Sometimes it get’s extremely tiring with all the cleaning and expenses that go along with a business, but I enjoy it.

I know I definitely enjoy it due to the cotton candy machine located at home. When the rink holds banquets or fundraisers (for either figure skating or hockey) my dad always manages to cart along a few of his machines and we always have a great time with all the sweets!
